Simhastha Camps in Ujjain: Staying Cool in April–May

What to expect from Ujjain Simhastha 2028 camps—AC and air-cooled tents, what to check before booking, storm safety and daily camp life in the summer heat.

Staying in a camp is the most immersive way to experience the Simhastha. But Ujjain's mela runs from late March to May, when afternoons often cross 40 °C. A camp that is fine in a Haridwar winter can be unbearable in a Malwa summer, so choose carefully.

Cooling comes first

Type Cooling Suits
Basic tent Fan only Young, hardy travellers; not recommended in May
Air-cooled cottage Desert cooler Budget families, early in the season
AC cottage Air-conditioner Families, seniors, anyone visiting in late April or May

We offer AC Camp, Luxury Camp, Deluxe Camp and Tent Stay categories, with the exact camp and price confirmed for your dates.

What to check before booking

  1. Cooling: AC or cooler? Is there power backup, and for how many hours?
  2. Insulation: do the tents have double layers or thermal lining? A single-layer tent traps heat.
  3. Shade: are there shaded lawns, pandals or covered walkways?
  4. Water: safe drinking water, and enough water for bathrooms in peak heat.
  5. Bathrooms: attached or shared, and how often they are cleaned.
  6. Meals: fresh vegetarian food with hydrating options such as buttermilk, nimbu pani and fruit.
  7. Medical help: a first-aid room, with ORS and heatstroke awareness.
  8. Location: distance to Ram Ghat and Mahakaleshwar, and the shuttle arrangements.
  9. Operator: a registered business with a written confirmation and a clear cancellation policy.

Storms

Pre-monsoon storms and dust squalls can strike in May. In 2016 a sudden storm damaged tents at the Simhastha. Ask how the camp is anchored, and whether there is a sturdy building to shelter in during severe weather.

Daily camp life

  • Pre-dawn: walk or shuttle to the ghat for snan; Mahakal darshan
  • Late morning to 4 p.m.: rest in your cooled tent
  • Evening: akhara camps, satsang, the Shipra aarti
  • Night: dinner and an early sleep

Hotel or camp?

For seniors or anyone sensitive to heat, an AC hotel near Mahakal Lok may be wiser. See Where to stay.

Live the camp experience

Our Simhastha Camp Experience package includes an AC luxury tent, all meals, a snan escort and Mahakal darshan.
