A hotel within walking distance of Har Ki Pauri is the single biggest comfort upgrade you can make for the Kumbh. On snan days vehicles are stopped far away, and a hotel close to the ghat lets you bathe, rest and return for the evening aarti without long walks.

What to ask before you book
- Walking time to Har Ki Pauri. A real figure in minutes, not "near the ghat".
- Is the lane open to vehicles on snan days? Many are not; plan for luggage.
- Lift? Many older buildings don't have one. Ask for a low floor if needed.
- Hot water and heating for January–February.
- River view? These rooms book out first and cost more.
- Food. Most hotels in Haridwar serve vegetarian food only. Sale of meat and alcohol is not permitted in the city's main areas.
- Minimum stay on snan dates. Many hotels insist on 2–3 nights.
