About the Haridwar Kumbh Snan Package
This is our shortest Haridwar Kumbh trip, and for most families it is the right one. Two nights is enough to arrive calmly, take your holy dip at Har Ki Pauri on the morning you have chosen, see the evening Ganga Aarti and visit the two hilltop Shakti temples, Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi, without rushing an elderly parent or a tired child through the crowds.
The package is built around one idea: on a Kumbh snan day the hardest part is not the dip itself, it is getting to the river and back. Roads close, vehicles are stopped at parking areas on the edge of the city, and the last stretch to the ghat is on foot. So we keep you in a camp close to the mela area, we walk with you before dawn, and we plan the rest of the trip around that one morning.
Who this package suits
- First-time Kumbh visitors who want the essential experience in a short trip.
- Families with parents or children, because walking distances and timings are planned in advance.
- Working professionals who can only take a long weekend.
- Small groups of friends or relatives travelling together from Delhi, the NCR, Punjab, Haryana or western Uttar Pradesh.
If you want more time in the mela, or a day in Rishikesh, look at the Haridwar Kumbh with Rishikesh package. For parents who need a slower pace and more help on the ground, the Senior Citizen Kumbh Yatra is a better fit.
Choosing your snan date
The Haridwar Kumbh runs from 14 January to 20 April 2027. You can take this package on any of the bathing days, and the experience changes a great deal with the date you choose.
| Type of day | Dates in 2027 | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Amrit Snan | 6 March (Maha Shivratri), 8 March (Phalgun Amavasya), 14 April (Mesh Sankranti / Baisakhi) | The akharas' royal processions, the largest crowds and the strictest road controls. Unforgettable, but plan carefully. |
| Major snan days | 14 January, 6 February, 11 February, 20 February, 7 April, 15 April, 20 April | Very busy, but easier to move around. A good balance for families. |
| Ordinary days in between | Any day of the mela | The calmest option. The river, the aarti and the temples are all there, with far fewer people. |
If anyone in your group has difficulty walking, we usually suggest a major snan day or an ordinary day rather than an Amrit Snan. Read Amrit Snan in Haridwar 2027 to understand what happens on those mornings, and see all ten dates in our snan dates guide.
Your trip, in more detail
Day 1: arrival and the evening aarti. We pick you up from Haridwar Junction or Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun and bring you to your camp. After you settle in, your coordinator briefs you on the next morning: the walking route, the meeting point, what to carry and what to leave behind. In the evening you walk together to Har Ki Pauri for the Ganga Aarti, when the priests raise great brass lamps over the river and thousands of small leaf-boat diyas float downstream. We aim to find you a good viewing spot, but on peak days the ghats fill early, so we leave in good time.
Day 2: the Kumbh snan and the hilltop temples. The day starts before dawn. Your coordinator walks with your group to the bathing ghat, waits while you take your dip, and brings everyone back together at the agreed point. After breakfast at the camp we take the ropeways up to Mansa Devi on Bilwa Parvat and Chandi Devi on Neel Parvat. The ropeways save a steep climb and give you a view over the river and the tent city. The afternoon and evening are free: many families walk through the mela grounds, visit the akhara camps or simply rest.
Day 3: Kankhal and departure. Kankhal, a quiet old quarter just south of the main ghats, is home to Daksheswara Mahadev, the temple linked to the story of Daksha's yagna and Sati. We visit in the morning when it is peaceful, then drop you at the station or airport.
Where you stay
The package includes two nights in our Deluxe Camp category: a cottage with proper beds and an attached bathroom, inside a secure camp with a dining hall. January and February nights in Haridwar can be cold, so cottages are insulated and heaters or extra blankets are usually available on request.
Camp sites at the Kumbh are allotted each season, so we never promise a named camp in advance. We confirm the exact camp, real photos and the walking distance to the ghat in writing before you pay. You can upgrade to a Luxury Camp for more space and comfort, or choose a simpler Tent Stay to keep costs down.
What is included, and why some things are not
The package covers the parts that are hardest to arrange yourself during the Kumbh: a stay near the mela area, vegetarian breakfast and dinner at the camp, transfers from the station or airport, ropeway tickets for both temples and a coordinator for the snan and the aarti.
Train and air fares are not included because most families prefer to book their own tickets with their preferred class and timings. Lunches are left out so you can eat wherever you happen to be: Haridwar's bazaars are full of simple vegetarian food (see our Haridwar food guide). Puja and daan are personal, so we leave them to you, although we are happy to arrange a trusted priest if you would like one.
How the price is worked out
We do not publish a fixed price for this package because Kumbh rates move with the calendar. The quote you receive depends on:
- your snan date: Amrit Snan weeks cost more than ordinary days;
- your stay category: luxury camp, deluxe camp or tent stay;
- the number of people and rooms, and whether anyone is travelling alone;
- where we pick you up: Haridwar station or Dehradun airport;
- any changes you ask for, such as an extra night or a private car for the whole trip.
Send us your dates and group size and we will reply with an all-inclusive quote, usually within a few hours. Nothing is payable until you have the camp name, photos and inclusions in writing. Our budget guide explains what affects the cost in more detail.
Practical tips for this trip
- Carry a printed copy of your ID and your camp's address. Mobile networks slow down in large crowds.
- Dress in layers. Mornings by the river can be very cold in January and February and pleasant by April.
- Bring a change of clothes and a small towel for the snan, and a bag for wet clothes.
- Agree a meeting point for your group. The clock tower at Har Ki Pauri is the classic one.
- Keep valuables at the camp. You will not need much more than your ID, a phone and a little cash on snan morning.
Our first-time Kumbh checklist and how to take a holy dip cover the rest.
Make it your own
Everything in this package can be changed. Common requests are an extra night, a visit to Maya Devi Temple, asthi visarjan or pind daan with a priest at the right ghat, a day trip to Rishikesh or Neelkanth Mahadev, or a pick-up from Delhi. Tell us what you have in mind and we will adjust the plan.
