Ancient Shiva temple at the site of King Daksha’s yagna, where Sati gave up her life.
Kankhal is where King Daksha performed the yagna to which he did not invite Lord Shiva. Sati’s self-immolation here led to the legend of the Shakti Peethas. The temple stands beside the Ganga and is especially crowded during Shravan and Maha Shivratri.
Kankhal’s quiet lanes, old havelis and ashrams make it a pleasant contrast to the mela crowds.
