The Kumbh returns to Haridwar from 14 January to 20 April 2027. For about a hundred days the ghats from Har Ki Pauri to Kankhal will host the akharas, lakhs of kalpvasis and crores of pilgrims. Is 2027 an Ardh Kumbh or a Purna Kumbh?
By the twelve-year cycle, 2027 is an Ardh (half) Kumbh: Haridwar's last Purna Kumbh was in 2021. The Uttarakhand government has said it will organise 2027 on the scale of a Purna Kumbh. We explain the cycle in Ardh Kumbh or Purna Kumbh?
When should you go?
- For the spectacle, go for an Amrit Snan, especially the Maha Shivratri week, when two Amrit Snans fall two days apart.
- For comfort, choose a regular snan day such as Basant Panchami, Magh Purnima, Nav Samvatsar or Ram Navami.
- For weather, March and April are the most pleasant, while January mornings are cold and foggy. See Haridwar weather, January to April.
Where to stay
You have three broad choices:

How to get there
Haridwar is well connected by train from Delhi and most big cities. It is about 220 km from Delhi by road, and the nearest airport is Dehradun. What to see beyond the snan

How much does it cost?

Safety essentials
- Fix a meeting point. The clock tower at Har Ki Pauri is the classic one.
- Carry ID for everyone, and put a contact card in each child's and elder's pocket.
- Hold the chains in the water; the Ganga is fast at Har Ki Pauri.
