How to reach Haridwar for the Kumbh 2027 by train, air and road—nearest airport, main stations, routes from Delhi and snan-day changes.
Haridwar is one of the best-connected pilgrimage towns in North India. During the Kumbh, getting to Haridwar is easy. Getting into the mela area on snan days is what needs planning.
By train (most popular)
- Haridwar Junction is the main station, a short distance from Har Ki Pauri.
- It has direct trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Lucknow, Varanasi and many other cities.
- Fast daytime trains on the Delhi–Dehradun route stop at Haridwar, making it about a 4–5 hour trip from Delhi.
- Kumbh special trains are usually announced by Indian Railways closer to the mela, and nearby stations may be used to handle overflow.
Tip: book as soon as the reservation window opens for snan weeks, as trains fill up quickly.
By air
- Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun is the nearest, about 35 km from Haridwar (roughly 1 hour outside peak traffic).
- It has flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and other cities. Check current schedules.
- Alternatively, fly to Delhi and take a train or car (about 220 km).
By road
| From | Approx. distance | Approx. time |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi | 220 km | 5–6 hours |
| Dehradun | 55 km | 1.5 hours |
| Rishikesh | 25 km | 45–60 min |
| Chandigarh | 200 km | 4.5–5 hours |
| Lucknow | 500 km | 9–10 hours |
From Delhi, the usual route runs via Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee. New expressway sections are opening in stages, so check the latest route before you travel. Uttarakhand Roadways (UTC) and UP Roadways run frequent buses from Delhi's ISBT Kashmere Gate. See Delhi to Haridwar for the Kumbh.
