Train or road from Mumbai to Nashik for the Simhastha 2027: journey times, monsoon conditions on the Kasara ghat and the best choice on snan days.
Mumbai is the biggest source of Simhastha pilgrims after Nashik itself. Here is how the options compare.
Quick comparison
| Train | Road via Kasara ghat (old highway) | Road via Samruddhi Expressway | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time | ~3–3.5 hours to Nashik Road | ~4–5 hours | Can be faster, depending on your start point and the exit |
| Monsoon | Reliable, with occasional delays | Fog, heavy rain, occasional landslide closures | Better road; still check advisories |
| Snan days | Best: avoids parking zones | Parking outside the city | Parking outside the city |
By train
- Several trains run daily between Mumbai (CSMT, Dadar, Thane, Kalyan) and Nashik Road. Examples include the Panchavati Express and Janshatabdi, and some long-distance Mail/Express and Rajdhani trains also stop.
- Fast trains take around 3–3.5 hours.
- Book early for weekends in August and September 2027.
- From Nashik Road, take a taxi or bus to Panchavati (about 10 km). On snan days, follow the shuttle arrangements.
Check current timetables on Indian Railways before booking.
By road: the Kasara ghat route
- The traditional route runs through Thane, Bhiwandi, Shahapur and Kasara ghat to Igatpuri and Nashik.
- In the monsoon the ghat is beautiful but can bring thick fog, heavy rain and slow traffic, and sometimes closures after landslides.
- Leave early, avoid driving at night in heavy rain, and check traffic updates.
By road: the Samruddhi Expressway
- The Mumbai–Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg passes near Igatpuri and Nashik district and offers an alternative for some journeys.
- Check which entry and exit points suit your route, and the current toll and speed rules, before you travel.
On Amrit Snan days
- Train is the smartest choice.
- If you drive, plan to park outside the city and use the shuttles.
- Travel the day before, and return the day after.
