Amrit Snan dates, the two bathing sites, where to stay and how to plan a monsoon Kumbh in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar.
The Simhastha Kumbh returns to Nashik and Trimbakeshwar in 2027. It is the only Kumbh held on the Godavari, and the only one split between two towns—which makes planning a little different from Haridwar or Prayagraj.
Key dates
The Government of Maharashtra has announced:
- 31 October 2026 – Flag hoisting at Ramkund and Trimbakeshwar, start of the Simhastha period
- 29 July 2027 – Nagar Pradakshina, Nashik
- 2 August 2027 – First Amrit Snan
- 31 August 2027 – Second Amrit Snan (Shravan Amavasya)
- 11 September 2027 – Third Amrit Snan, Nashik
- 12 September 2027 – Third Amrit Snan, Trimbakeshwar
- 24 July 2028 – Flag lowering, end of the Simhastha
Please re-check official notices before travel; dates can be revised.
Two towns, one Kumbh
Nashik (Ramkund, Panchavati): the Vaishnav akharas bathe here. Panchavati is full of Ramayana sites—Kalaram Temple, Sita Gufa and the five banyan trees.
Trimbakeshwar (Kushavarta Kund): the Shaiva akharas bathe here, beside one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The town is about 28 km from Nashik and is much smaller, so rooms are limited.
Most visitors base themselves in one town and make a day trip to the other. If darshan at Trimbakeshwar is your priority, stay in Trimbak; if you want variety, stay in Nashik.
A monsoon Kumbh
The Amrit Snans fall in August and September—peak monsoon in the Western Ghats. That means:
- Regular rain and slippery ghats
- Lush, beautiful countryside and waterfalls around Trimbak and Igatpuri
- Travel times that can double in heavy rain
Choose stays with raised floors and covered walkways. The tent cities approved under the Kumbh Mela Authority's framework are required to meet servicing standards; we only work with approved operators.
Add-ons worth considering
- Shirdi (about 90 km) for Sai Baba darshan
- Pandavleni Caves, 2,000-year-old Buddhist caves on the edge of Nashik
- Bhimashankar or Grishneshwar for a multi-Jyotirlinga yatra
