What happens on an Amrit Snan day
- The night before: roads into the river areas are restricted, and vehicles are held in parking zones outside the city. Shuttles carry pilgrims to holding points.
- Before dawn: the akharas assemble at their camps.
- Processions: the Vaishnav akharas process to Ramkund in Nashik, and the Shaiva akharas to Kushavarta Kund in Trimbakeshwar. See Nashik or Trimbakeshwar?
- Public snan: pilgrims bathe at the public ghats along the Godavari. The akharas' slots at the main tanks take priority.
- After the processions: crowds remain heavy into the evening, and restrictions ease gradually.
