How to organise a group trip to the Haridwar Kumbh 2027—group sizes, booking room blocks, transport, meals, coordinators and keeping everyone together.
Satsang groups, housing societies, temple committees and extended families often travel to the Kumbh together. Group trips are rewarding, but at Kumbh scale small mistakes multiply quickly. Here is how to plan one well.
1. Fix the basics early
- Group size: confirm a firm number, plus a waitlist.
- Dates: pick one snan day, and avoid Amrit Snans for groups with many seniors.
- Budget per person: decide whether you are aiming for a dharamshala, a hotel or a camp.
- A group leader, plus one sub-leader for every 10 people.
2. Accommodation for groups
| Option | Group size | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dharamshala / ashram block | 10–100+ | Most affordable; strict rules; book very early |
| Hotel room block | 10–40 | Mixed occupancy; check the lift and floors |
| Camp cottages | 10–60 | Best atmosphere; meals and satsang together |
See Dharamshalas and ashrams in Haridwar and Kumbh tent camps.
3. Transport
- Trains: book group tickets as soon as the booking window opens. Kumbh specials may be added later.
- Buses or tempo travellers: check where group vehicles may park on snan days. They are usually held at outer parking areas, with shuttles towards the ghats.
- Plan for luggage: lanes near the ghats are often closed to vehicles.
4. Meals
Group meals are best arranged at your stay, as most camps and many dharamshalas have kitchens. Haridwar is a vegetarian city. Ask for simple, freshly cooked sattvik food, and plan for any fasting members on snan days.
5. Keeping everyone together
- Matching scarves, caps or badges make your group easy to spot.
- An ID card for every member with the group leader's number and the stay address.
- A headcount at every move.
- A fixed meeting point near each ghat you visit.
- A WhatsApp group for updates, but don't rely on it, as networks slow down in crowds.
6. Documents
Keep a list of all members with ID numbers, ages, emergency contacts and medical notes. Carry a printed copy.
