The Nashik Kumbh falls in the rains. What to ask any hotel, lodge or camp so leaks, power cuts, water-logging and damp don't spoil your Simhastha 2027 trip.
August and September in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar mean regular, sometimes very heavy rain. The right stay keeps you dry, rested and safe. The wrong one can ruin the trip. Use these questions before you book.
10 questions to ask any stay
- Has the room or tent ever leaked? Ask directly, and ask for recent photos.
- Is the area prone to water-logging? Low-lying lanes near the river can flood.
- Power backup? Ask whether there is a generator or inverter, and for how long.
- Hot water at all hours? In damp weather it matters.
- Covered access from the room to the dining area, and from the gate to the room.
- Drying space: a balcony, a covered line, or a laundry service. Clothes don't dry easily in the monsoon.
- Mosquito protection: screens, nets or repellent machines.
- Floor: a raised floor for tents, and a non-slip floor for bathrooms.
- Parking and approach: is the approach road paved, or does it turn to mud?
- Flexible cancellation in case of severe weather or official restrictions.
Hotels vs camps in the rain
| Hotel | Tent city | |
|---|---|---|
| Leak risk | Low | Depends on build quality |
| Drying clothes | Easier | Harder |
| Atmosphere | Quieter | Mela experience |
| Seniors and young children | Recommended | Only top-grade camps |
Location and river safety
- Avoid rooms right at river level in Panchavati if heavy rain is forecast.
- Know your route to higher ground, and follow local advisories when water is released from upstream dams.
