A practical 4-day plan combining the Haridwar Kumbh 2027 snan with Rishikesh—Lakshman Jhula, Triveni Ghat aarti and Neelkanth Mahadev—timed around crowds.
Haridwar and Rishikesh are only about 25 km apart, and together they make the perfect Kumbh trip. You get the snan and the mela in Haridwar, and the calm, the mountains and the ashrams in Rishikesh.
The golden rule
Do Rishikesh on a non-snan day. On major bathing days the road between the two towns is congested and vehicles are restricted near the mela.
Day 1: Arrive in Haridwar
- Arrive and check in near the ghats or in a mela camp.
- Evening Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri.
Day 2: Kumbh snan
- Pre-dawn: holy dip with your group or coordinator.
- Day: explore the mela, akhara camps and satsangs. Read our akhara visitor's guide.
- Afternoon: ropeway to Mansa Devi, if queues allow.
Day 3: Rishikesh
- Morning: drive to Rishikesh, about 45–60 minutes.
- Walk the riverside between Ram Jhula and Lakshman Jhula, visiting temples and ashrams. Check which bridges are open to pedestrians.
- Lunch at a riverside café. Rishikesh is also largely vegetarian.
- Optional: a drop-in yoga or meditation class.
- Evening: the aarti at Triveni Ghat or Parmarth Niketan.
- Return to Haridwar, or stay overnight in Rishikesh.
Day 4: Neelkanth Mahadev, then depart
- Early morning: drive to Neelkanth Mahadev, about 30 km beyond Rishikesh on a hill road. See the Neelkanth route guide.
- Return and depart from Haridwar station or Dehradun airport. Jolly Grant is close to Rishikesh.
Variations
- Short on time? Skip Neelkanth and leave on Day 4 morning.
- Adventure lovers: rafting operates on the Ganga above Rishikesh in season. Check current operating rules.
- Families: add a Rajaji safari on Day 4.
