Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga
The twelfth Jyotirlinga, a red-stone temple near the Ellora Caves rebuilt by Ahilyabai Holkar.
Grishneshwar, at Verul near the Ellora Caves in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, is traditionally counted as the last of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The red-basalt temple with carved walls was rebuilt in the eighteenth century under Queen Ahilyabai Holkar.
By tradition, men remove their shirts before entering the sanctum. Combine darshan with the UNESCO-listed Ellora Caves next door.
Visiting tips
- Ellora Caves are usually closed one day a week—check before planning the combination.
- Expect queues on Mondays and in Shravan.
