Sita Gufa & Panchavati

The small cave where Sita is believed to have worshipped Shiva, beside the five banyan trees that give Panchavati its name.

Panchavati means “five banyan trees”. According to the Ramayana, Rama, Sita and Lakshmana lived here during their exile, and it was from here that Sita was taken by Ravana.

Sita Gufa is a narrow cave with a Shiva lingam inside. The lanes around it are full of small shops selling puja items, a lively part of any Nashik visit.

Visiting tips

  • The cave entrance is very narrow and low—not suitable for people with knee or back problems or claustrophobia.
