Kalaram Temple

Eighteenth-century black-stone temple with a black idol of Lord Rama, landmark of Panchavati.

Built in 1792, the Kalaram Temple takes its name from its black (kala) stone idol of Rama, flanked by Sita and Lakshmana. Its tall shikhara and stone enclosure make it the most striking building in Panchavati.

The temple is also remembered for the 1930 temple-entry satyagraha led by Dr B. R. Ambedkar.
