Pandavleni Caves

A group of around two dozen Buddhist rock-cut caves on Trirashmi hill, dating back about two thousand years.

Despite the name, the Pandavleni caves have nothing to do with the Pandavas: they were carved by Buddhist monks between roughly the second century BCE and the second century CE, with inscriptions from Satavahana and Western Kshatrapa rulers.

The climb up the hill takes 20–30 minutes and rewards you with carved chaityas, viharas and views over Nashik.

Visiting tips

  • Wear good footwear; the steps are slippery in the monsoon.
  • Carry water; there is little shade on the climb.
